Hello fellow artist’s and client’s! My name is Calais (pronounced Cal-ay, rhymes with ballet). I’ve been in the Microblading and Permanent Makeup industry for 3 years now and fortunately have come a long way from when I first started, but it took me a looong time to get here. I’ve decided to start sharing my experiences and knowledge I’ve gained along the way to help you learn about microblading and permanent makeup. Whether you’re seeking info about getting your brows done, or are wanting to increase your education in the pmu industry, you’re in the right place!
I wanted to share with you my story and how I got into microblading and permanent makeup and maybe some helpful tips to help you decide if microblading is the right career for you!
When I was in high school I never thought much about going to college until my senior year. I had always thought I would attend cosmetology school and be a stay at home mom doing hair on the side. But as the time came. I decided to move out, go to college and try and figure things out from there.
At first my degree was going to be in nursing, then it changed to social work, and then it changed to just getting my generals and surviving. I met my hubby after about a year and a half of school and decided that I would stop going so that we could afford to put my hubby through school without having to take out student loans.
I finally decided what I wanted to do and went to a technology college and got my Medical Assisting Certificate and began working in a dermatology office, specializing in skin cancer removals. I loved it! I loved working with the skin and having a lot of one on one time with my patients. I loved being able to get to know my patients on a personal level and hearing their stories of what made them who they were. But the long hours and hours of being on my feet just weren’t ideal if we wanted to start a family, so I moved to a family practice office until we had our first daughter.
I love being a mom, being a mom is something I always wanted to be when I “grew up”. What I didn’t realize was how hard it is to be a mom. I went from only thinking about me and my hubby, to thinking primarily about how I was going to keep this tiny human alive! I completely lost myself and realized quickly that in order for me to be able to do this motherhood thing, I needed something that was just for me, that was mine, that I could do for a minute and not have to think about anything else.
So I got into an MLM… BIG mistake! The only positive thing that came from it was meeting my best friend. And to this day we still can’t believe we got into it and lost money from it.
So I took a step back and decided it was time for me to do something for myself. That thing was to get my eyebrows microbladed. I had been thinking about it for a while. I was one of those who totally rocked the 90’s brow (not). I was so self conscious of my eyebrows that I knew I wanted something done to help me feel better about them. (And when I say self conscious, I mean that I never wanted to leave my house without at least makeup on my brows.) They were so patchy and thin from over plucking over the years that I was truly embarrassed to show my face in public without brow makeup on.
I finally got my brows done after a little research in my area and was shocked at how realistic they looked! I was hooked! I remember asking the girl who did them where she learned, who she learned from, how long it took for her to get certified, and all of the questions. I literally went home after my appointment and thought, “this is it!”. This was what I wanted to do and be when I grew up! So I called up the studio where the girl who did my brows got certified and got all the deets. Next thing I knew, I was signing up to get trained and learn how to do it myself! Like seriously, from the time I got my brows done to the time I signed up was within the same week! Was I crazy? YES! Do I recommend doing that? NO! Do I regret my decision? Absolutely not! I may have been a little hasty with my decision making, but I just knew that this was what I needed to do and where I needed to be!
3 years later and microblading is still my all time favorite job/career path/profession I’ve ever had! I. LOVE. IT!
Since my initial certification I have received over 20 certificates in microblading and permanent makeup. I specialize in color and shape corrections as well as saline tattoo removal. If your brows are botched, I’m your gal! If you’re wanting to learn how to fix botched brows? I’m your gal for that too!
I have an intense passion for learning and for sharing my knowledge with my clients to perfect their brows, and students to perfect their skills!
I’m excited you’re here and cannot wait to continue sharing bits and pieces of my knowledge with you throughout my journey here!
